Welcome To the Shelley Combs Website

Shelley Combs is an artist – potter, photographer and painter, living in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, (between Nanaimo and Campbell River) just 2 hours drive north of Victoria, British Columbia.

aCeramics and Pottery

Shelley crafts candle houses using either mid-fire white porcelain or low-fire red terra cotta clays.   These colourful, quaint 6-8” high houses are charming when a tealight is lit inside them … causing the light to spill from the windows and doors and creating a comforting and delightful ambience … as garden art or as indoor decoration.  Some of the houses are highlighted with snow-like effects, making them fit in with any Christmas setting.

Many of the houses can be hung from hooks anywhere in the garden, on your patio or along a path to provide light and mood during the evening.  Collectable and affordable, they lend themselves to creating a hobbit-like village in quaint setting. They can be used inside or outside, but should be taken inside in the winter if you live in a place where there is frost.

Shelley also crafts beautiful porcelain tiles in a number of sizes for decorative accents in kitchen and bathrooms or anywhere you are looking for an interesting adjunct to your wall décor.

The tiles can be embellished with silicon feet and used as coasters or trivets.  They come 4" or 6” square approximately.

Platters and Plates

The platters and plates are carefully and lovingly handbuilt are made of porcelain and coordinate with the black and white tree motifs of the porcelain tiles.   Foodsafe and in a variety of sizes, they work well for meats, hors d’oeuvres, cheese or fruit.  One of a kind, hand-made and designed tableware is always good as gifts for weddings, showers, birthdays or any special day.

Most platter and plates are 12 to 24”  square or rectanglar.

Paintings

Shelleys Combs' paintings are impressionistic or abstracted views of natural areas around Vancouver Island: the Comox Valley, Campbell River, Nanaimo and Victoria.  The flowers of Beacon Hill Park, the woodlands of Strathcona aPark, Mount Washington or the local Cumberland cemetary offer delightful vistas and details to paint.

From farther afield, shelley is greatly influenced by the hills of Tuscany, the beaches of Bermuda and life on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea which have inspired many of her landscape works.

Her paintings come in a variety of sizes, from 8”x 8” to 24” x 36”.  They are primarily acrylic and generally need no framing (although you can easily have them framed to accent your own home)
